Digital content creator Carol Sonnie is set to celebrate her daughter’s 3rd birthday in the next month.
Sonnie doubles up as Mulamwah’s baby mama; and they sired their daughter Keilah while Sonnie was just 22 years old.
After the birth of Keilah, Mulamwah and Sonnie decided to part ways. It was a tough time for Sonnie; who had to endure the pain of raising the child alone.
For the latter reason, she has shared a piece of advice to young women who are looking forward to getting pregnant.
Carol maintained that there’s no ‘inappropriate’ time for a lady to get pregnant; but they must put a few things into consideration;
”For me, what I usually tell ladies, you’re the one who makes the decisions. You have the choice of saying you want it, or you don’t want it. Ikifika hapo, don’t get pregnant for anyone. Get pregnant because you want to, and because you are financially stable. Make your money, have a child when you are ready. Ata huyo mzee akienda, you can take care of yourself and the child,” she shared.
Challenges of being a single mum
Carol Sonnie previously opened up about the challenges she faced as a single mother. In an interview with Auntie Jemimah, Sonnie shared the pressure she experienced from society due to having a child while still living at her parents’ home.
Sonnie and her then-partner, Mulamwah, welcomed their daughter in September 2021. However, Mulamwah later denied paternity, but reconsidered his decision. Despite the challenges, Sonnie remained strong and focused on raising her child.
Sonnie faced criticism from people who knew her parents, who were respected church members. Many questioned their parenting skills, suggesting that she should have gotten married before having a child. She shared the emotional toll this pressure took on her, both online and at home.
Despite the challenges, Sonnie has overcome the negative comments and is now raising her daughter with love and support.
