Diana Kemunto, a rising social media personality known as a “City Girl,” recently went viral for sharing anonymous confessions about women spreading HIV/AIDS. In a recent interview with Kenya Online Media, she clarifies her role and the impact the situation has had on her.
Kemunto acknowledges that the confessions sparked outrage online, but insists she was simply reposting them, not claiming personal responsibility. She emphasizes the importance of fact-checking and expresses her disappointment at the online abuse she’s received, which has also affected her loved ones.
“Have you ever been tormented, I’m in that cage, I feel tormented, it’s like I’m having demons. I’m facing this, I’m fighting that. Keyboard warriors are also saying things without reading the stories saying ‘Meet Kemunto, the lady who has slept with over 50 men and spread HIV/AIDS’ but that is not the story. The people who were there when these anonymous stories began, can tell that these are confessions from people and I was reposting the confessions, they are not my confessions. People should try to understand, not be misinformed. People are inboxing me calling me names, this doesn’t hurt me but it hurts my loved ones. If you’re not sure, ask. It’s affecting me, I’m also human,” she told KOM’s Eve Nyaga.
Diana’s Revelation
While Kemunto previously discussed “helping” women find wealthy partners, she now encourages young people to practice safe sex or abstain altogether.
She defines “City Girls” as young women who enjoy partying, travel, and financial security. This lifestyle, according to Kemunto, can involve “wababa” (sugar daddies) but should be used strategically to build a secure future.
“City Girls are into partying, drinking, travelling, kujispoil na wababa, the smart ones wanaitumia kujibuild,” Kemunto stated.
Kemunto claims to be one of the originators of this concept and advises women to leverage it for their long-term benefit.
