Tanzanian music superstar Diamond Platnumz has once again found himself in the spotlight, but this time, it’s not for his music or personal life. The singer’s English language skills have become a subject of discussion, particularly after a recent interaction with American singer Jason Derulo.
Diamond’s response to Derulo’s question about his arrival time sparked online criticism, with many Kenyans pointing out his grammatical errors.
Jason Derulo asked him;
”When did you get in town?”
He answered;
”2nd in the morning.”
This isn’t the first time the singer has faced such scrutiny. A previous incident involving a mispronunciation of the word “song” also led to widespread online commentary. He also stated in Young Famous & African that he is 31st (thirty first) years old, instead of 31(thirty one) years old.
Need for help
Interestingly, Diamond had previously sought professional help to improve his English. A Tanzanian named Allan came forward to reveal that he had tutored the singer and several other Wasafi artists in American English.
Despite these efforts, Diamond’s recent slip-ups have reignited the debate about his language proficiency.
