Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently opened up about his personal life while addressing the Nation on October 7th during a press briefing following his impeachment.
- DP Gachagua opens up about his late parents and his siblings
Unlike other politicians who practice strict privacy when it comes to their personal lives and families – hon. Rigathi took this opportunity to share a little unknown information on his background, opening up on his lonely life that many were not aware of.
According to the vice president, he is an orphan together with his siblings following the death of their mum and dad.

Although he did not share much regarding their passing, DP Rigathi revealed that his mother was from Meru while his father was from Hiriga village in Nyeri where he was born and raised.
The DP went onto discuss his siblings saying his brother Nderitu the governor died of pancreatic cancer, while his other brother, Dr. Fredrick Gachagua died because of alcohol and again – another brother Jack Reriani also died from alcohol abuse.
He however had little to say about his sister as he mentioned they were married with families of their own living separate from the Gachagua dynasty.
His revelation on his family comes at a time when Kenyan members of parliament are expected to vote on impeaching Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for alleged corruption and undermining the government, among others claims.
So far the MPs have listed 11 grounds for impeachment, but prosecutors have not formally charged Gachagua, and no judicial inquiry has been opened against him.
For this reason DP Gachagua has rejected the allegations and is expected to defend himself in parliament. Speaking during his recent speech, the DP insisted on his innocence saying;
“I am innocent of all these charges,” adding;
“I have no intention whatsoever to resign from this job. I will fight to the end.”
However if the motion against him is passed in parliament, DP Gachagua will be the deputy President to be removed in this manner.
