DCI cautions against criminal intent during nationwide protests.
This comes after the DCI issued a stern warning to individuals who had planned to exploit the nationwide anti-government demonstrations for their criminal activities.
DCI stated that the peaceful protests on July 2, which were happening nationwide, later escalated into violence as goons infiltrated Nairobi CBD and other parts of the country, attempting to vandalize and steal from businesses.
“During today’s demonstrations that saw massive properties destroyed by various criminal elements, security forces across the country singled out suspects found engaging in criminal activities under the guise of protesting and took them to custody.” DCI stated.
However, the DCI deployed meticulous investigators across the affected regions to pursue the suspects captured on CCTV cameras and mobile phone recordings as they violently robbed and destroyed properties.
“The DCI has further deployed scrupulous investigators across the affected regions to pursue suspects captured on CCTV cameras and mobile phone recordings violently robbing, stealing, and destroying properties and businesses of innocent citizens.” DCI declared.
The DCI reminded the culprits that they would face the consequences of their actions individually in the corridors of justice.
“DCI reminds culprits that they shall bear the consequences of their actions individually in the corridors of justice and assures all Kenyans that the processes involved in the investigations conform to the demands of the criminal justice system.”
DCI appeals to property owners for CCTV footage in pursuit of justice.
The DCI urged property and business owners whose premises were equipped with CCTV cameras, potentially capturing criminals, to grant access to their acoustic unit detectives to retrieve the footage.
“Meanwhile, we appeal to property and business owners whose premises are installed with CCTV cameras, which may have captured criminal activities being perpetuated, to grant access to our Imaging and Acoustic Unit detectives to retrieve the footage in the pursuit of justice to the affected persons.” DCI urged.
