Kenyan chef Dennis Ombachi has been selected for TikTok’s Change Makers Program, a global initiative spotlighting creators who drive positive social change.

Ombachi, a self-taught chef and former rugby player, was chosen as one of 50 purpose-driven content creators worldwide. This program by TikTok aims to support creators like Ombachi and empower them to make a difference.

With a total budget of Ksh 131 million (US$1.2 million), the initiative will benefit over 30 global and local non-profit organizations. Each Changemaker, including Ombachi, will receive a Ksh 3.2 million ($25,000) donation to directly support their causes.

Ombachi was recognized by TikTok for his inspiring work. He has become a social media star with a global following of 2.3 million on TikTok, thanks to his dedication to helping those in need. Despite a career-ending injury that forced him to retire from rugby, Ombachi found a new path by using his culinary skills to give back to his community. He regularly distributes meals to underprivileged residents across Nairobi.

This selection highlights Ombachi’s positive influence and the power of social media to create real-world change.
