The Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) has rebuked media televisions that were broadcasting the Azimio Protests on Monday, accusing them to have gone against programming codes.
The Communication Authority of Kenya is in charge of facilitating the development of the information and communications sector, monitoring the activities of licensees to enforce compliance with the license terms and conditions. As well as help in regulating the retail and wholesale tariffs for communications services, among many others.
The team led by Ezra Chiloba has listed the channels that violated the programming code which were: CITIZEN TV, NTV KENYA, K24, KBC, TV47 AND EBRU TV.
The following stations have been asked to reconsider their actions and adhere to all the causes of the Programming Code without failure as well as stick to their obligations in broadcasting their content.
According to the report shared by the Communication Authority, the above media channels went against a number of Programming codes, among them being going against a code that states Broadcasters should take care when coverage in crisis so that they don’t distract or hinder efforts by the authorities, which clearly is what prevailed. They also mentioned the aspect of creating tension among users by using words that were creating fear and panic amongst citizens.
