In a candid and emotional interview, comedian YY opened up about the significant challenges he faced at the start of his career, revealing a side of his journey that fans seldom see: the struggles and sacrifices behind the laughter. YY said that at first some of his relatives, including his uncle, never believed that he could make it with comedy and promised he would prove them wrong.

There’s this uncle of mine who told me, Hakuna chance yenye huyu jamaa ana…… This guy is a thief, and he is going to be shot soon, Juu sikuwahi onekana kwa TV show ya Churchill.” Comedian YY shared.

After those remarks by his uncle, YY walked out of the meeting he was having with his parents, the uncle included, and made a vow to prove him wrong.

The father of one promised to do everything in his power to make sure he became what his uncle thought he couldn’t amount to.

I kept doing my thing, and then time came ya kucome kwa TV inajileta tuh yenyewe now that Aibu came back to my uncle. I got promoted to the main show, and the rest is history.” Comedian YY shared.

Why YY Never Dropped the Mic

The father of one who got emotional when narrating why he kept pursuing his dream career even after having faced trolls and criticism from his uncle said that he chose to take in the pain and keep his head high because he wanted his mother to live a good life and, above all, for people to recognize and respect her.

Bro, one of the reasons I worked hard was for people to great my mom with respect… I have seen a lot, and my mom has carried so many burdens on my behalf… My mom has been told words for things that I did that she did not tell me to do.

And so I always wanted people to be like,Pale ni kwa kina YY, and you know what? You have to put some respect on that name, and I’m glad when people say, Wewe ulifika usalimiangi watu, and I am like, Yeah, mama yangu alifika
.” YY said.
