Chelsea maintained their European charge with a fourth successive win on Wednesday, overcoming Brighton by a 2-1 scoreline at the Amex Stadium.
The first goal was scored by Cole Palmer in the 34th minute. A decisive, excellent header by the former Manchester City’s youngster, assisted by Marc Cucurella, put the Blues ahead.
With that goal, Cole Palmer has scored a total of 22 Premier League goals this season.
Brighton’s Pascal Gross missed great chances, and they were punished even more by the Blues that have been winning back to back matches after Christopher Nkunku, Chelsea’s forward, scored a brace for the team in the 64th minute, a goal that was assisted by Chelsea’s right back Malo Gusto.
This confirmed their lead; however, Brighton kept pressing on and on, and in the 90th+ minute, Danny Welbeck struck one for his team.
However, it was not an entirely good day in office for the Chelsea team as their captain Reece James was sent off for a petulant kick on Joao Pedro late on, even though they held on to ensure a top-seven finish remains in their hands going into the final day.
What’s Next For Chelsea
Chelsea will face Bournemouth on Sunday for their final game, and they will need to give it their all if they need to play in the Europa League next season. They are in 6th place with 60 points as of now, but they are being followed closely by Newcastle, which has a tie of 57 with Manchester United.
