Kenyan artist Kevin Bahati has shared why Kenyan gospel music isn’t producing big gospel brands like it did 10 years ago.
Bahati shared on his Instagram story that Kenya has always been a revival point for the gospel but might struggle to produce big gospel brands now.
“Kenya was and is still the revival point of the gospel, but we might not be able to produce big gospel brands like 10 years ago.” Bahati shared.

Bahati Explains God’s Impact on Gospel Music in Nigeria and Rwanda
The father of five explained that God is moving to industries like Nigeria and Rwanda not because Kenyans can’t sing well but because the brands that God has raised in the church in Kenya are jealous of each other.
“The reason why God has moved to industries like Nigeria and Rwanda—we are now looking up to Sinach and people like my good friend Israel mbonyi is not because Kenya doesn’t sing well or have good worship or praise songs. NO! NO! NO! The truth is… The brands that God has risen in the church are jealous and envious of each other.” Bahati explained.
Bahati continued to explain that hypocrisy is more common in the church than in the secular world, emphasizing that God cannot be mocked.
“Hypocrites are more in the church than in the secular world… God is not mocked when you succeed; people are quick to gather and put you down in the gospel industry than in Gengetone.”
Bahati says he is not looking for clout.
Bahati admitted he’s not seeking clout by calling out gospel artists adding that, he fears returning to the gospel industry due to the animosity among its people.
“I rarely talk about the church nanajua wanajijua watasema natafta kiki, but the truth is, mimi huogopa kukaribia tena hii industry juu najua vile wanachukiana… Yaani ata Khaligraph Jones na Nadia Walipost #THE BAHATIS EMPIRE kabla ya, my “Gospel” brother and sisters. God has used the world to put us to number one. That reminds me of Numbers 23:8, “What God has blessed, no man can curse.“ Bahati shared
He concluded by emphasizing the need for repentance and an end to hypocrisy in order for God to elevate us to the next level. In the meantime, he pledged to pray for Urbantone’s success.
“Wadau mimi sio mwokovu sana kama wengine wenyu hapa online lakini kitu najua is we need to repent and stop the hypocrisy for God to take us to the next level… Otherwise, God naomba aendelee kuinua urbantone kabisa mkijifanya deputy Jesus nanyinyi ni hypocrites. AMEN.” Bahati shared
