Yesterday, September 15, 2024, Arsenal Football Club, a team playing in the English Premier League, defied all odds and defeated their rival Tottenham Hotspur, moving two points ahead of Manchester City.
Arsenal won the game thanks to the header of their very own Gabriel Magalhaes, who made the contribution in the 64th minute.
The decisive goal came from a corner as Arsenal continued their impressive record from set pieces.
The Gunners were already without their best players like Declan Rice, their own captain Martin Odegard, and defender Riccardo, who picked up injuries while on the international break; hence, they were excluded from the team that was playing.
Even with Arsenal having some of their best players out on injury and not 100%, they still managed to win the London Derby.
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, however, congratulated his team despite having won without their key players, describing the win as ‘Ugly’. In a statement he shared after the match, he confirmed that he had very much prepped for the match, but losing key players made him worry a bit.
“I prepared for Tottenham for five days, then in one moment I lost one player and in another I lost another.I didn’t sleep much. I loved it because day after day the players are hungrier and hungrier.” Mikel Arteta said.
For Arsenal. This win comes in handy, and it was very much needed because their next 4 fixtures are against big EPL teams that may need them to give it their all.
“The players believe already. We have won a lot of big games, but this will give us a lot of energy and belief.” Mikel Arteta shared.
Being a North London Derby, Tottenham Hotspur Manager Ange Postecoglou shared his thoughts on the outcome of Arsenal coming out on top of them.
“We’re disappointed. it was a big game for us and our supporters so losing the game is disappointing and painful. We played in the right areas but didn’t execute in the final third.”
