According to Amberay, his ex-boyfriend’s temper was unpredictable, exploding over the smallest things—something that was becoming unbearable to deal with as time went by.

“I remember he was outside having fun, and by the time he was coming home, the gate had been closed… He  called me, and I went knocking at the landlord’s door in an attempt to let them know that my man was still outside the gate and needed to be opened for, but to no luck, the landlord never responded, and so I told him so, and he decided to go back to where he was.

He came later on in the morning, and by then I was in bed with the baby. He went fetched water and spilled it at us in bed, saying, ‘Munalala huku na mwenye nyumba hajalala…..” Amberay recalled.

Amber Ray, who was surprised by what her boyfriend had done, made a decision to step up and empower herself. ‘I started crying, and I couldn’t go to my father’s house because it was far, but the madharau became too much, so hapo ndio nilianza kuuza matumbo.’

Amberay’s boyfriend, seeing how his woman was sacrificing trying to generate income, helped her get employed in a casino where he too used to work, and that benefited them in the long run.

However, as time went by, Amberay said that her boyfriend started getting jealousy because she was getting special treatment from clients who could at times tip her and demand that they be served by only her.

Too Much Toxicity

The situation escalated when one time Amberay’s boyfriend came home drunk, demanding to know where she had been without giving her time to respond, He started landing blows on her heavily; thanks to her brother, she was rescued from the brutality.

“Nikiingia kwa kitanda sijui alitoka wapi, akakuja amejam ameturn pink akaniuliza, where are you coming from? Mimi nikamwambia atulie kwanza, making it clear to him that we were not supposed to have conversations when you are drunk…
