Inspired by a spectacular goal from Amad Diallo, Manchester United defeated Newcastle 3-2 on Wednesday, reviving their hopes of turning around a dismal campaign.
Their first goal was scored by their youngster, Koibee Mainoo, in the 31st minute, and Diallo scored another one in the 57th minute. Last but not least, their striker, Rasmus Hojlund, confirmed their win in the 84th minute.
Newcastle, however, didn’t lose without a fight, as they had two goals in their basket, one that came in at the 49th minute by Anthony Gordon and an additional 90+ minutes that proved vital, helping them add another one by Lewis Hall. Even though they lost to Manchester United, they are still ahead of it by goal difference, and Sunday’s match might just confirm everything for them.
Manchester United may just qualify for the Europa League should they win the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25. But if City triumphs at Wembley, then seventh will be enough for a Conference League spot.
