Musician Akothee has narrated how she was conned Kshs 5,000 on Monday by Mr. Dickson a man claiming to be working for Kenya Forest Service.
According to her, he said he was going to donate timber to help with her ongoing project which is building a school in Rongo, Migori County under her foundation, Dickson then asked her to cater for transportation, she was hesitant but he was aggressive, “He then sent us photos to confirm that the timber had been loaded and that his boss is waiting for us to fuel the lorry for the timber to be delivered. He said how much he loves to give back to the community and that he loves the work that I do,” she narrated. The man was very adamant and insisted on talking to her, “He had insisted on meeting and talk to me directly since I am the founder of the foundation.”
After she made the payment on November 5, 2022 Akothee has not heard from him. She was forced to reach out to Kenya Forest Services, who confirmed she was conned and was further informed that several people had been conned the same way. “Since November 5 we waited for the lorry to arrive at the Akothee Foundation warehouse until today, it’s been in vein. I have called Mr. Julius of Kenya Forest and he has confirmed to me that several people, including me have been conned and the profile picture the guy is using is not his, but an innocent officer’s. We’ll be very aware the market is congested,” she said.
