Mohammed Abduba Dida, a former Kenyan presidential candidate, is serving a seven-year prison sentence in the United States for stalking and intimidation.
Dida, who traveled to the US in 2019 to further his education, met his American wife and married her. However, their relationship deteriorated, leading to a restraining order against Dida.
Dida’s family claims that he unknowingly violated the restraining order by visiting a mosque in a restricted area. They have appealed to the Kenyan government for assistance in securing his release.
“We are praying for him and trying to find a way of visiting him, finding another lawyer, and helping him. As a family, there are limits to what we can do, and that’s why we need government intervention.”
Dida was convicted of two charges in 2022 and sentenced to a total of nine years in prison. He has been incarcerated at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center since November 2022 and is expected to be released in April 2029.
