Earlier today Traders from Nyamakima and Kamukunji have gathered and joined forces marched to the newly opened China Square demanding its closure.
They marched all the way to Nairobi’s Central Business district (CBD) chanting “CHINA MUST GO” accusing the Chinese of taking over their businesses, thus including their clients.
China Square that has been running for a few days now halted their operations on Sunday for evaluation of its strategy.
In a statement released by the management, they had said that they are closed because of the high volume of traffic and that they are working in bringing in another team to help in guarding the mall.
“As a supermarket, we are unable to handle the high volume of traffic, which has become a severe concern for the public safety of all our customers, we are arranging more security guards onsite.”
There were reports of high traffic people storming in to shop goods considering their cheap and favorable prices on items, thus making the Nyamakima and Kamukunji traders feel provoked in someway as their loyal customers are changing route.
China Square is located at Unicity mall Thika road.
