Kebaso Hints at Possible Threats
Reflecting on the events, Kebaso emphasized that he left the scene in another car shortly after the crash, as a precautionary measure. “Sometimes accidents are used to cause confusion so that the real thing can happen.” He explained that, though he refrained from pointing fingers, he acknowledged being well aware of the growing number of threats he faces.
“I don’t want to blame anyone without evidence, but now I know I’m on a clock,” he wrote, adding, “I have too many enemies to start guessing who can do it.” He highlighted various groups that may feel threatened by his work, including government officials, opposition members, tribal leaders, and contractors he has exposed for corruption.
Rising Tensions in Kenya’s Political Scene
Kebaso, known for his activism and legal work exposing corruption and advocating for justice, revealed that his efforts have faced backlash. He mentioned that some in the political sphere might see him as a threat to their influence, including those who believe he may run for a political position in the future.
“Rising tribal chiefs feel like our message might dilute their influence, presidential candidates think I will run against them, and contractors who have been paid money and disappeared could also be suspects,” he explained.
As a result of the accident and the increasing threats, Kebaso indicated that he plans to upgrade his security details. “I will definitely review my security details upwards,” he shared. He also expressed caution about attending meetings that run late into the night, a move that reflects his growing awareness of the dangers surrounding him.
