NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia announced the new salary structure during a press conference on Thursday. Under the revised pay scale, police constables will see a raise of Ksh4,000, bringing their monthly salary from Ksh21,645 to Ksh25,645. This adjustment reflects a commitment to enhancing the financial well-being of officers, particularly those who have served for extended periods.

The salary review also includes an increase for senior officers. Senior Assistant Inspectors General will receive a substantial boost, with their salaries rising from Ksh200,899 to Ksh221,915, an increase of Ksh21,026. Long-serving senior assistant inspectors can now earn between Ksh310,725 and Ksh409,365, depending on their years of service.

The review also ensures that police officers deployed on peacekeeping missions will benefit from the new remuneration structure. The adjustments are part of ongoing consultations with the National Police Service (NPS), with Acting Inspector General Masengeli advocating for both promotions and salary enhancements.

The National Police Service Commission has noted complaints about stagnation among long-serving officers. Some have been in the rank of constable for over 30 years with clean discipline records,” Kinuthia explained. To address these issues, the commission has recommended merit-based promotions for officers aged between 53 and 59 who have demonstrated exemplary service.

So far, the NPSC has approved the promotion of 1,957 officers, including 87 women, in the 53 to 59 age bracket. This move aims to recognise and reward the dedication of senior officers who have served with distinction.
