As universities prepare to open their doors for the new academic year, the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) is urging the public to join in the fight against alcohol and drug abuse among school-aged children. The call to action comes in response to recent concerns over student safety and substance abuse.

In a recent statement, NACADA highlighted the importance of community involvement in addressing these issues. The authority encouraged the public to report any incidents involving intoxicated drivers, unsafe transport operators, and other situations related to drug and substance misuse. NACADA emphasized that collective vigilance is crucial for safeguarding the well-being of young people.

“It is our collective responsibility to protect our children from the dangers posed by alcohol and drug use,” said Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, CEO of NACADA. “We urge parents, guardians, school authorities, and everyone in the community to remain vigilant. Parents should closely monitor their children’s travel arrangements and be aware of potential risks during transit.”

NACADA also called on schools to play an active role in this effort. He encouraged schools to empower students through education and open communication about the risks associated with alcohol and drug abuse.

This appeal follows the circulation of a viral video showing students being dangerously transported in a public service vehicle (PSV). The video, which highlights the risks associated with poor transport conditions, has sparked widespread concern and underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures.
