“As I was doing my usual role of supposing these street families are no longer paid by anybody nor any organization, I do it deeply from the bottom of my heart because I understand the life they go through. What they did to me—the three police officers, two men, and one lady—won’t mention their names, but I really know them very well.” Part of Grace Ann statement read:

Even though she never really revealed the manner in which she was handled, she insisted on the need for the Nairobi County Governor to ensure that the street families are protected because they never really chose to be where they are, and being human beings as well, they deserve to be treated equally and not treated like outcasts.

“There are these police officers so called by their nicknames ‘Rhinos’ whose task is to ensure security in town. What kind of uniform is this, Sakaja Johnson? Your uniform men are no longer securing the people of Nairobi.”

She went further, explaining the need for the public and, more especially, the police officers, to treat everyone equally and sharing how deeply disappointed she was with the way the street children were handled.

“Please, my fellow Kenyans, ‘Police officers’ let’s gather hands together to support the street families and not harass them, beating them until some bleed.

It has been a painful experience since I started my charity work in the streets.”

She concluded by making it clear that the next time she is interrupted by the policemen, it will be a different case and not business as usual.
