Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has completed a move to Atletico Madrid for a fee of £34 million. The 24-year-old England international has signed a five-year contract with the Spanish club, keeping him at the Metropolitano Stadium until 2029.
Gallagher’s transfer had been delayed due to complications surrounding Atletico’s pursuit of Samu Omorodion from Chelsea. However, with the completion of that deal, Gallagher was able to finalize his move to the Spanish capital.
The midfielder, a Chelsea academy graduate, becomes Diego Simeone’s fourth signing of the summer.
In his farewell message to Chelsea fans, Gallagher expressed his gratitude, saying, “To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true. It’s been an absolute honor every time I put on the shirt. I loved every moment, and these memories will last forever.”
Atletico teased the announcement with a series of cryptic social media posts referencing Gallagher’s aggressive playing style and the TV show “Sons of Anarchy.”
Chelsea confirmed Gallagher’s departure with a heartfelt message, acknowledging his 18-year tenure at the club and wishing him well in his new adventure.
