“We did not have enough money” Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bill on why ideal statues to commemorate athletes Faith Kipyegon and Eliud Kipchoge were not erected

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bill has defended the team behind creating the statues that were brought down from Eldoret City which were aimed at honoring the heroes that made Kenya proud.

Speaking while addressing an audience in church, Jonathan Bill apologized for creating statues that were looking different and not appealing to the eye causing a stir online, saying the reason they ended up coming up with those statues was because of three things.

Reasons that made them resort to creating odd Statues

One, they had no funding from the government; two, they were trying it for the first time because they were being helped; and third, they entrusted the work to unprofessionals who had never done it before.

“Najua kulikua na makosa kidogo, kidogo, Unajua ukiwa mtu mdogo na ndio unaanza maneno na hauja kua perfect sasa wakati tulikua tunaunda ile statues, we didn’t have any funding or support from anywhere… Sasa wewe ndio unajitetea,

Sasa business community, wengine wakakuja wanasema aty, I’m adopting this street, this stadium… I’m adopting this roundabout, and I will put up some statues. And you know, with the media and publicity, Jonathan Bill explained.

He clarified further to the public that they were not at all at fault, as it was all done by well-wishers who may have missed it slightly.

He, however, said that as much as they have been called out, they have marketed their City Eldoret, as that is what they initially wanted people to know about ‘The City of Champions’, telling people to stop worrying as they should look at the good side, which is being known worldwide.
