The construction of Rwanda’s first cannabis production facility, led by King Kong Organics (KKOG), is on track to be completed by September 2024. KKOG, a division of KKOG Global, has made headlines as the first company to secure a five-year license from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) for cannabis cultivation.
Rene Joseph, Founder and CEO of KKOG, revealed that the facility’s completion has been slightly delayed from its initial May 2024 target. “We are 70% done with the facility and expect to finish by the first week of September, the delay was caused by the need to build a new access road, which is crucial for the facility’s operations” Joseph said.
The project has already seen a significant investment of $10 million from KKOG. This funding has been used for essential components including machinery, construction, land fees, and the importation of genetically modified cannabis seeds.
Joseph expressed optimism about the future, highlighting the potential economic benefits of the facility for Rwanda. “This facility will not only boost local employment but also position Rwanda as a leader in the emerging cannabis industry,” he added.
Once operational, the plant is expected to contribute significantly to Rwanda’s economy and the burgeoning global cannabis market. The completion of this facility marks a milestone in Rwanda’s agricultural and economic development.
