The govt has announced plans to tax the church if the draft Religious Organizations Bill, 2024 is passed into law. From reports, the bill will require all churches and religious groups to share their financial records with the government each year.
The bill suggests setting up a Religious Affairs Commission to manage religious matters that will include number of congregation in attendance, financial reports, accounts and any funds coming into the ministry.
“Any religious institution which files its returns out of time shall pay such penalty for late filing as may be prescribed,” read part of the draft bill.
With the news already out, of course the likes of pastor Ng’ang’a had to react and knowing the kind of person he is – Ng’ang’a will not be boarding.
Speaking to his church congregation in a viral video circulating online – Ng’ang’a announced he will be part of the govt circus.
This is because the president and his govt are wrong to interfere with churches or organizations carrying out God’s work as they solely depend on offerings and hand outs from well wishers – which would not be fair to tax.
He called out the govt for trying to rob churches in the name of taxes – yet clubs and other institutions remain untouchable.
