Kenya Power Lightning Company has dismissed claims suggesting that updating your token meter means that your already-bought tokens will deplete quickly.
Addressing the claims via their social media page, KPLC dismissed the claims, saying that updating tokens is a global exercise that has been created to ensure the meters work smoothly.

How to Update your Token Meter
The process involves updating the prepaid meter software. To update meters, customers will key in two codes sent to them via SMS by Kenya Power in the correct sequence. The codes are 20-digit numbers that will be entered into the prepaid meters to update the meter’s software.
If the update is successful, your meter will accept new electricity tokens going forward If the meter isn’t updated, it will not accept tokens.
Updating the Token meter should happen before August 31st 2024.
