Hassan Joho narrates his wins despite being mocked for scoring a D- in KCSE

Published on

Former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has yet again admitted his KCSE grade was a D- after hefty criticism over the years.

As a renowned leader, having attained such a grade seems peculiar to netizens; who believe such a leader should be performing way better than that.

In his defense, Joho explained how hard he was struggling during his high school years.

“I am very different from, for example, Uhuru Kenyatta. Some of us have had to struggle to reach where we are today. When I was young, I supported my family in selling vitumbua (Swahili rice cake) so that they could contribute toward raising my school fees. After school, I would go look for menial jobs to, at least, earn an extra coin.”

Joho’s defense

In a recent speech, Joho stated that he now holds two degrees despite his low high school grade.

He further explained that his name will go in the history books as he was the first governor of Mombasa.

”I was a D-. But I hold two degrees now. And I am the first governor of Mombasa. It will go down in history that Ali Hassan Joho was the first governor of Mombasa. And I tell you, watch this space. There two things that make us human. One of them is to win or to lose. But you must give it a try.

Asked about how he managed to enroll for a degree programme, yet his KCSE grade falls below the Commission for University Education’s (CUE) requirement to enroll for a bachelor’s degree, Joho said:

“Ukitoka shule and you did not do well, there is this option: you can first pursue a certificate, then a diploma then you are admitted for a degree programme.

Initially when his result leaked to the public, Joho refuted the claims, stating that it wasn’t his legitimate score. He later decided to come clean, terming that his wins outshine the cons of scoring the grade.
