“Release them” President Ruto orders immediate release of those arrested during protests

Published on

Kenyan President William Ruto has ordered the immediate release of those who were protesting peacefully yesterday in different parts of Nairobi.

President Ruto, who was addressing the nation earlier today from the State House, shared his condolences with the families who lost their loved ones, directing that those who may have been caught up in the wrong side of things be released and charges withdrawn.

“Unfortunately, there have been many instances of excessive, unlawful, dangerous, and harmful conduct during the demonstrations and engagement, as a consequence of which many people have been arrested and charged in courts with various offenses.

I urge the criminal justice agencies to take effective measures and ensure that people who may have been innocently caught up on the wrong side of things and those not implicated in crime are released and charges against them withdrawn.”
President Ruto said.

This move is aimed at helping the agencies focus their resources and time on investigating, prosecuting, and taking action against serious criminal elements who took advantage of yesterday’s peaceful protests to sabotage and vandalize not just public property but private one as well.
