‘We need compensation of protest victims’- Activist Boniface Mwangi insists going on with demonstrations (Video)

Activist Boniface Mwangi will today show up in the streets of Nairobi to continue with the anti-government demonstrations.

3 weeks ago, the narrative was about President William Ruto having the intent of passing the finance bill after members of parliament voted to support it.

Most Kenyans were disappointed and took to the streets to vote against it after realizing how it would negatively impact their lives financially; bearing in mind the hard economic times that we’re already facing.

Anyway, the president decided to change his mind after considering how Kenyans greatly lamented against the bill.

Seeking justice

But one particular thing that has kept activist Boniface Mwangi on toes is the fact that the president is yet to compensate the victims who lost their innocent lives during the protests.

Speaking in a recent interview, Mwangi maintained that he’s set to continue with the demos until the president compensates the families who lost their loved ones.

“So let’s not think we have won anything yet because we don’t have anything tangible we can say we have won. Why can’t the President call the families of those who died and apologise because he hasn’t done any of that. The thing is what we are asking for at this particular stage is justice for the victims, we need compensation for the victims and all the alleged killer cops prosecuted,” he said.

He further claimed that there should be amends that need to be brought back to help Kenyans; and that the president should do away with the housing levy.

“We are also saying that the housing levy needs to be scrapped, bring back NHIF we don’t want this SHIF thing. The problem we have is that if we leave the streets, he will not listen to us,” Mwangi added.

Mwangi has been among the most active activists who have fought injustice for a while now. Today’s protest is expected to lead demonstrators to state house.
