Gospel singer Ringtone Apoko has sent a message to netizens and MP’s to visit the injured protestors in their area.
This comes after the toll announced by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) doubled the figure previously disclosed by the authorities for those killed while contesting a set of unpopular tax increases that have now been withdrawn.
“Data from our records indicates that 39 people have died and 361 [have been] injured in relation to the protests countrywide,” the state-funded body said in a statement, adding that the figures covered the period from 18 June to 1 July.

Ringtone’s request
The gospel artist sympathized with the injured protestors as he delivered a heatfelt message requesting people to visit them. He shared in an interview with SPM Buzz while at KNH.
“You know, you might find there is a young person who left home well and took to the streets to fight for his rights and a better future shouting ‘reject’ and now you will find that he is all alone here in the hospital. Due to that, you know it is very easy for these young people to get demoralized and have this used against them.
He shared his main reason for encouraging netizens to visit the injured protestors.
”Next time something happens and we ask young people to come out most of them will be told, ‘you remember when you got hurt you were all alone?’ Here, you might find that there is a patient who from morning till now hasn’t had any visitors and we don’t want that happening.I’d like to encourage everyone who was in the streets, these people need you now more than ever. Now that they are alone, they need us.”
