Safaricom deny being involved in helping the police track down anti finance Bill activists

Published on

Safaricom Company has refuted claims of having been involved in helping the police track down those protesting against the 2024 Finance Bill.

This follows reports that have circulated online that there are more than six people who have been abducted because they were rejecting the Finance Bill.

Hanifa, who has been at the forefront of campaigning against the 2024 Finance Bill, took to her social media page to tag Safaricom because she felt like they were the only people who might be giving the police officers leads to track down the individuals.

100% @safaricomPLC,” Hanifa wrote on her Twitter handle.

This had also been noted by a Twitter user who questioned how the police officers abducting people were able to track one’s location with 100% accuracy.

Lakini, how do police track you to your current location with 100% accuracy?”

Safaricom, however, refused to be associated with such claims, saying they are nowhere near those allegations, and inasmuch as they can indeed trace one’s location with ease, they can’t do so unless they receive a court order directing them to do so, and as it stands, they have received none.

We don’t share customer data unless it’s explicitly against a court order. On this issue, there has been no request or court order served.” Safaricom replied back.

Up to now, there are seven people missing, and some have even notified their fans online by posting that they were hearing knocks on their doors at odd hours.

Why Safaricom can easily track one’s location

Safaricom PLC is a listed Kenyan mobile network operator headquartered at Safaricom House in Nairobi, Kenya. It is the largest telecommunications provider, and it has everyone’s data; as long as one is using Safaricom, they can be easily traced.
