Earlier, Ichung’wah had criticized the Kenyan Generation Zs who were protesting against the 2024 Finance Bill, claiming they were just a privileged group using iPhones during protests.

“The many you see protesting in Nairobi with iPhones; they call themselves Gen Z; they come to the demonstrations in Uber; afterwards, they go to KFC and eat chicken… They even drink bottled water,” Ichung’wah said.

However, speaking in Baringo on Sunday, June 23, it seemed Ichung’wah had reconsidered his position on the Gen Zs.

Ichung’wah Praises Gen Z for Moving Beyond Ethnic Politics

There was a sudden change of heart from Ichung’wah, who commended Gen Z for challenging the long-standing ethnic politics in Kenya.

He congratulated Gen. Z for taking charge and stepping forward to govern the country. Additionally, they rallied around issues of concern rather than tribe or ethnicity.

“Gen Z has stepped forward to take charge of the governance of their country. They have redefined picketing and demonstration, being non-violent yet firm. They have rallied around issues of concern rather than tribe or ethnicity. This is great for our nation.” Ichung’wah said.

Ichung’wah asked the security agencies to facilitate and designate a picketing corner for Gen Z so that they could picket peacefully.

“Therefore, let me ask those who are concerned within our security agencies to facilitate them and designate a picketing corner for them so that they may picket peacefully and criminals don’t infiltrate them, those who come to spoil their peaceful demonstration.” Ichung’wah urged.

Kimani Ichung’wah embraces Gen Z’s unity and progress in advocacy.

He also acknowledged that the rise of Gen Z in advocacy and governance demonstrated a significant move towards unity and inclusivity, successfully overcoming ethnic and tribal divisions that had long separated the country.

“The emergence of Gen Z as a force in advocacy and governance has shown a remarkable shift towards unity and inclusivity, transcending ethnic and tribal barriers that have long divided us. This new generation exemplifies a forward-thinking approach, prioritizing common goals and shared values over narrow, divisive identities. It is disappointing to witness some national leaders clinging to outdated notions of tribalism and ethnic division.” Ichung’wah said.

Ichung’wah went on to praise Gen Z for demonstrating a more progressive vision for our country’s future.

“Our Gen Z clearly demonstrates a more progressive vision for our nation’s future, setting an example that all leaders should aspire to follow.” the Kikuyu MP said.
