Musician and businesswoman Esther Akoth (Akothee) has shared reasons why she believes the finance bill should not be passed.

The mother of five took to her Instagram to share a lengthy post to the president, citing the negative impact that the finance bill will bring upon passing it.

”Dear Mr. President,

It has now been a year since you assumed office. Your Excellency, by the time you were taking charge, the pressure on the citizens had already risen to a boiling point. The cost of living has escalated to such an extent that many of your voters struggle to afford three meals a day. As a philanthropist, I can confidently say that basic necessities like sanitary towels and bread have become luxuries for many,” she started off

She continued;

Young girls are dropping out of school because they cannot afford sanitary towels. In desperation, they are forced to trade their bodies for these basic needs. Taxing sanitary towels is akin to punishing women for a natural biological process. It would be a significant relief if sanitary towels were distributed for free in schools. Currently, many Kenyans cannot even afford underwear to hold the pads, adding to their plight.

Akothee further pleaded with Ruto to re-consider his thoughts on finance bill, adding that Kenyans are already suffering with the high cost of living.

”Kenyans are mired in distress, hunger, anger, and confusion. Your Excellency, I urge you to reconsider the finance bill and listen to your people. As the director of a school, I witness parents in the village struggling to raise even 300 Ksh. As A mother it breaks my 💔.Mr. President, we need a meeting to discuss these pressing issues. Please listen to us, the citizens.
