Daniel Koikai, father of the late reggae artist and menstrual health advocate Jahmby Koikai, tragically died by suicide on the same day his daughter was laid to rest. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death.
Koikai, 65, was found deceased with a significant neck wound on June 14th, just hours before Jahmby’s funeral. The autopsy, conducted at a Nairobi funeral home, revealed excessive bleeding from a self-inflicted injury.
This devastating news follows the recent loss of Jahmby, a passionate advocate for menstrual health awareness. Her funeral drew a large crowd, many of whom are now doubly grieving.
The day of the discovery began with a disturbing message from Koikai to his daughter, Naserian. It hinted at his intentions. Naserian rushed to his apartment but found the door locked. Gaining entry through a window, she discovered her father’s body and a knife.
The police report details the events and confirms the presence of a self-inflicted throat wound. Koikai’s body was transported to the funeral home.

This double tragedy has deeply impacted the Koikai family and the community. Jahmby’s former employer, Ghetto Radio, initially reported Ambassador Koikai’s passing under unclear circumstances.
The day before the suicide, Koikai delivered a heartfelt eulogy at his daughter’s memorial service. He acknowledged his failings as a father due to work commitments as a diplomat, seeking forgiveness from Jahmby. Their relationship was reportedly strained by his long absences.
