In a candid interview on Reel Talk KE, popular Kenyan actor Blessing Lung’aho revealed a side of himself fans rarely see: vulnerability. Lung’aho, known for his captivating performances, discussed the struggles and insecurities he faces as an actor, including moments when he seriously considered quitting.

Lung’aho confessed to doubting his abilities, particularly when faced with challenging scripts. He described receiving roles that made him question his talent and wonder if he possessed the necessary skills to deliver a convincing performance.

“There have been times,” Lung’aho admitted, “when I’d read a script and just feel completely out of my depth. I’d question myself, ‘Can I even pull this off?'” He elaborated on these moments of self-doubt, citing specific instances where he wrestled with portraying a character in a memorable way.

Upcoming projects & battles

These internal battles were not limited to isolated occurrences. Lung’aho went on to share similar anxieties about an upcoming project titled “Untying Kantai.” He recounted receiving the script and contemplating giving up entirely, feeling overwhelmed by the demands of the role.

Lung’aho attributed these experiences to imposter syndrome, a psychological phenomenon where successful individuals doubt their achievements and fear being exposed as a fraud. However, he finds solace in his faith, believing that God equips him with the strength to persevere through challenging moments. “There are times when self-doubt hits you hard,” he said, “but the minute you take that first step forward, it’s like a reminder that you were meant for this. Just keep going.”

Lung’aho also addressed the significant influence of social media on his life, acknowledging both its positive and negative aspects. He highlighted the importance of self-validation, particularly in the face of online criticism.

“Social media has been a valuable teacher,” he explained. “It’s forced me to learn how to validate myself. If I don’t believe in my own worth, then no amount of praise or criticism from strangers will truly matter.”
