“I got nothing out of it” Zikki Talks about his Collaborative song ‘Take it slow’ with Jaguar

Published on

Kenyan artist Zikki has talked about his collaborative song ‘Take it Slow‘ that he did with Jaguar a while back.

Speaking during an interview with our very own journalist Silvakido, he disclosed that he never got a penny out of the million-view trending hit song that he recorded with Jaguar, who was a former starehe MP.

Take it slow, Royalities..I got nothing..and I will close it there.” Zikki disclosed it, insisting that he was not going to talk about it.

We, however, followed up on the story with another YouTuber, Plug Tv, who talked with him in a brief interview with Zikki, who had admitted that he was used to creating the banger ‘Take it slow‘ that has over 6 million views on Youtube and left disadvantaged. As much as he hates that part, he acknowledges the fact that the song helped him build a name for himself and gain recognition that he initially never had.

Maisha imekua poa… exposure, kujulikana na watu, na mostly it is all about credibility… unakua verified kwa macho za watu na watu pia wanakujua na pia inaopen up your world na opportunities, that’s what music does for you.” Zikki admitted.

He, however, shared his disappointment with the fact that he never got a cent out of the song, saying they should ask ‘Main Switch’, which is the brand that produced the track.

Ulizeni main switch… mimi, I make money from my shows and my other music, but specifically for that song, I didn’t get my royalties, but unajua at the same time, you get blessed differently.”

Why Zikki never received Royalties

Zikki goes on explaining why he never got his music royalties from the song despite him being part of it, saying it was because by then he wasn’t informed of why they took advantage of it and bypassed him. He also blamed the person who was handling them at that time, saying Jaguar wasn’t behind the whole mess.

I never faulted Jaguar, but it was the person who was handling us by then because he wasn’t doing things the right way. makosa ya jana isikue repeated leo…hakua manager, but he had the chance to do it differently, but he was blinded and conceited with small money, hence he chose to ignore.

Funny thing you know tulikua so young, things were not done the right way, ilitu hurt in some way but tulirecover but it is not something I might we wish on other upcoming artists because royalties…na kuna need ya kua…na rules kwa hii industries na zifuatwe, because royalties they pay you forever…but mimi ndio nadistribute hiyo song sasa… It is my time to eat
.” Zikki explained.

Zikki’s Message to Upcoming artists

Concluded by urging upcoming artists to know their rights so that they are not taken advantage of by those who already know.

Know your mechanical rights as a musician, as a songwriter, and as a producer so that you are not misguided and it becomes easier for you to claim what is rightfully yours,” Zikki shared.
