Celebrity YouTubers react to the new content regulations by KFCB

Published on

Kenyan YouTubers are expressing strong disapproval of recent regulations issued by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB). These regulations require YouTubers to obtain licenses, have their content pre-approved, and comply with other restrictions.

Popular content creators like Nasra Yusuf, Mammito, Abel Mutua, Mulamwah, Jacky Vike, Natalie Tewa, Blessed Njugush, and YY Comedian have all been served notices by the KFCB. They have taken to social media to voice their frustration and disappointment.

Jacky Vike expressed her concern that the KFCB is targeting YouTubers just as the industry is gaining momentum, creating jobs, and achieving international recognition.

“Just when there’s been more positive content creation, job creation, and international recognition, the KFCB decides to crack down on us,” she stated on social media. “The fact that they haven’t even consulted with content creators before issuing these restrictions is very telling.”

Comedian and actress Mammito, who shares her skits on YouTube, shared similar sentiments. She criticized the KFCB for failing to support and encourage content creators.
