Mauricio Pochettino Departs Chelsea After Up-and-Down Season

Published on

Mauricio Pochettino’s time at Chelsea has come to an end after just one season. The club and manager agreed to part ways by mutual consent.

Despite a challenging season with a youthful squad, Pochettino achieved some success. He guided the Blues to the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup semi-finals. Most importantly, they secured European qualification with a strong finish, winning their last five Premier League games to climb to sixth place. This marks a significant improvement from the previous season’s 12th-place finish.

In a statement, Chelsea acknowledged Pochettino’s contribution: “We would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season.” Pochettino also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity.

Pochettino, 52, took charge in May 2023 after a lengthy search for a permanent manager following Frank Lampard’s interim spell. He inherited a team in transition, with a significant overhaul taking place. Chelsea invested heavily in young talent (over £400 million) while letting go of experienced players like Azpilicueta, Kante, and Kovacic (total sales of nearly £250 million)
