Dr Ofweneke schools struggling artists on secret to surviving the music industry

Published on

Kenyan comedian and radio host, Dr. Ofweneke, has schooled struggling artists on the secret to making it in the music industry.

Speaking to the press, the father of three opened up, disclosing that the reason why artists struggle to get to the top is entirely because of the laziness and lack of self-drive relying comfortably on media outlets to push their music for them without doing anything on their side.

According to Ofweneke, inasmuch as their music will be played on radios, the artist should be the one doing the most by pushing their own music more through sharing the track on all social media platforms and persuading people to go stream it. That is the only way local artists can compete with international ones and reach similar heights.

What artists fail to understand is that I am playing your music because your music is nice, but I am not your sales team. So just because I play your music on air doesn’t mean I walk with your flash disk and I get to play it everywhere.

If your music has been played on Radio 47, Milele FM or Citizen chukua hiyo clip ueke social media uanze kujihype nayo. Guys need to put in the work
.” Dr. Ofweneke hinted.

He goes on urging artists to not just relax after releasing a track, failing to put in the work will only lag them behind. Inasmuch as they’re fans and have support from the public, they should be the ones doing the most. “You have to invest in it intentionally. There’s no option about it.”

Ofweneke urged artists to be ready to sacrifice in order to reap the fruits of their hard work, saying the problem with Kenyan artists is that they are lazy, ignorant, and individuals who are not open-minded, which is why they are lagging behind.

The Radio 47 host shared an example of how incompetent Kenyan artists are, describing that they’re with misplaced priorities, don’t seize the opportunity once it comes right before them, and tend to focus on other things that will not be of help, like, for instance, the way they carry themselves each time international artists are in the country.

The problem with our artist is…Davido si amekua hapa juzi…the only thing our artist will do is take the photos with the artist and wait for throw back Thursday to post.

We really need to do better
.” Dr. Ofweneke explained.
