Effects Of Taking BirthControl Pills

Published on

These very pills are usually recommended by the doctor to those who want to prevent an unintended or planned pregnancy.

They can also be described as oral contraceptives. Oral contraceptives are medicines used to prevent pregnancy.

Even though birth control pills were first introduced to help control the population and family planning issues, they are not always as good as many think. They expose the individual to potential and serious life-long side effects.

Birth control pills contain progestin, which is responsible for causing changes in the uterus by helping other hormones start and stop the menstrual cycle. And in the process of birth control, both hormones suppress ovulation. This is made possible by altering the body’s normal hormone balance. These birth control pills keep you from ovulating. This means that the pills prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg.

1. Nausea
This is the feeling of uneasiness in the stomach that often accompanies the urge to vomit. One may start to experience some mild nausea when first starting birth control pills. Usually, this goes away within a short time, depending on your body’s immunity. Taking your pill with food or before bedtime may help.

2. Breast Tenderness or Enlargement
This is when one feels tightness, tenderness, or sharp pain in one or both breasts. Mild breast tenderness or enlargement may occur after starting birth control pills. The hormones that are responsible for creating breast soreness might also cause cyclical swelling or lumpiness. They also affect the size, shape, or sensitivity of cysts. And as a woman, this is not something you want to put yourself through.

3. Persistent Headaches
One may start having painful headaches to the point where you feel like you don’t want to do anything but just rest and let it settle.

4. Weight Gain
For most women, birth control pills, vaginal rings, and contraceptive skin patches are very unlikely to affect their weight much. Many women slowly gain weight over the years, but for some who take the pills, Theoretically, hormonal contraceptives contribute to weight gain if they lead to fluid retention and increased body fat. Also, combined contraceptives are believed to increase appetite, making them eat a lot, which in turn makes them gain weight.

5. Mood changes
One immediately changes, and sometimes it is hard to recognize them. Mood-related issues like anxiety and depression are super common among women on the pill because the effects the pills give them aren’t a walk in the park. Some users may notice changes in their emotional status—depressed mood or emotional instability—not really because they want to but because the drugs can’t let them.
