5 Things to do in your 20s to avoid regrets later in your 30s

Published on

Many people take pride in their 20s and always want to live life to the fullest. However, this is also a crucial time when the decisions you make at this time will impact your future. It is also a time when mistakes can be made that have a long-lasting effect that might cost your career.

To help you ensure you don’t have any regrets in your late 30s, consider following these 5 key things that I have prepared for you:

1. Don’t waste your time.
If there’s something that should be taken care of and made use of, it’s time, because once it’s gone, it will be hard to make up for it.

Don’t concentrate and put much effort into things that don’t matter. This entirely means investing time, valuing things that matter, working to build meaningful goals, and nourishing physical and mental wellness.

2. Avoid excessive drinking.
As much as partying and drinking are part of having a good time with friends, too much of it is actually not a good idea because too much drinking may affect your mental health and drain you not just physically but financially as well, which will make it hard for you to achieve your set goals.

3. Spend more time with family and people wiser than you.
This is actually not a light matter because family is very important. The more time you spend with your family, the more wise and cautious you will be when it comes to decision-making because you will always be guided to do the right thing.

Chilling with people who are wiser than you will also help you in the long run because you will start thinking and doing things like them, which will make you even better in your 30s. This will even help you build meaningful connections that you never thought you could’ve had in your 30s.

4. Focus on your career and studies.
Make sure you establish a career role you are passionate about and find ways to develop yourself professionally while furthering your education.

Take advantage of internships and mentorship opportunities that can give you invaluable experience and networking because there’s nothing bad about being in your late 30s and 40s with no educational background and no inherited wealth that will make you regret it for the rest of your life.

5. Avoid procrastination.
This means postponing things. If you are one who keeps doing this, maybe because you have many things to do, then what you are actually doing is delaying yourself from achieving your goals because the decisions you make in your 20s matter later on in your 30s.
