Speaking ahead of their CHAN opener, Grant made it clear that Zambia isn’t approaching the match with nerves or hype. Instead, the focus is on tactical structure and maximizing their own strengths.
“We’re focused on keeping our shape and building a winning mentality,” he said during a press session after their final training in Nairobi.
The former Chelsea and Ghana boss dismissed the idea of overanalyzing their opponent, insisting Zambia’s mission is about execution, not intimidation.
Beyond the tournament, Grant sees CHAN 2024 as a foundation-building opportunity for Zambia’s national football structure. The tournament, limited to players active in domestic leagues, allows Zambia to sharpen its future stars and deepen its bench ahead of bigger continental goals.

He stressed that the results will matter but so will how the team grows through the competition.
The team has settled well in Kenya, with their final training sessions showcasing calm energy and tactical discipline. Midfield playmaker Kelvin Kampamba and striker Albert Kangwanda are among the players expected to lead Zambia’s charge.
FAZ officials have joined the squad in Nairobi, adding morale-boosting support ahead of what is expected to be a charged encounter with DR Congo.
With a calm head and clear strategy, Grant is leading Zambia into CHAN 2024 with purpose and a belief that what starts at Nyayo could shape the future of Zambian football.
