Mutegi Njau, a former resident analyst on Citizen TV’s ‘Cheche’ power breakfast show, has passed away.
His family stated that Mutegi passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, June 27, 2024, around 7 pm.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our father. He peacefully left us on the evening of June 27, 2024, at 7 PM.”
The family described him as an extraordinary person whose kindness and dedication to his profession left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Mutegi Njau funeral arrangements
The family mentioned that they were still in the process of making funeral arrangements and would share the details within the next day or two. Meanwhile, they appreciated everyone’s understanding and support during this time.
“We are currently in the process of arranging his funeral and will share the details within the next day or two. Your presence would be greatly appreciated as we gather to honour his memory,” the family said.
The family added that during this difficult time, everyone should keep their family in prayers, while also thanking everyone for the continued support and love extended to their dad throughout his life.

Mutegi’s family mourned him as the foundation of their family and a beloved figure in the community.

Mutegi Njau’s media career
With a long and successful media career, Mutegi worked at top media houses like Royal Media Services.
His journey in media began in 1979, with his passion growing from the days of Kenya’s founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
Mutegi left Nation Media Group in 2005 after 24 years with the media house. Subsequently, he joined Citizen TV in 2006, where he worked until his retirement. Additionally, he served as chairman of the media association review committee.
Mutegi, who mentored many journalists past and present, was known for his attention to detail and mastery of the trade.

Mutegi Njau’s former co-host, David Makali, took to social media to remember him, expressing devastation over the passing of his senior colleague, co-host, and panelist.
Makali hoped that Mutegi’s hard work on this earth would be rewarded and that his memory would endure among those he mentored, gifted, and whose lives he touched with his kindness.
