What Happened

According to police reports, the accident occurred near the Amco area in Arimi, Molo Sub-county. The trailer, which was transporting logs, reportedly veered off the road before crashing onto the Arimi Bridge. The impact was severe, and the logs fell onto the occupants, killing them instantly.

Police confirmed that the deceased included the driver and two other men. Due to the extent of the injuries, authorities have not yet been able to formally identify the victims.

Bodies Taken to Mortuary

The bodies were later moved to Molo Sub-county Hospital mortuary, where they are being preserved as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

A Bridge with a Deadly History

Residents and frequent road users have once again described Arimi Bridge as a dangerous black spot. Locals say the latest crash mirrors several other fatal accidents that have occurred at the same location over the years.

Last year alone, at least 12 people reportedly lost their lives at the bridge under similar circumstances, raising concerns about the lack of effective safety measures.

Residents Demand Action

The tragedy has reignited anger among locals, who accuse the government of failing to act despite repeated appeals. They are calling for the installation of street lighting, visible road markings, and protective barriers to reduce the risk of future accidents.

Residents also recalled earlier assurances by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who had promised that the bridge would be upgraded to enhance road safety a pledge they say is yet to be fulfilled.

As families mourn yet another loss, the question remains how many more lives must be lost before Arimi Bridge is finally made safe?
