Motorists and city dwellers are being urged to plan ahead as Nairobi gears up for the much-anticipated Nairobi City Marathon. To ensure a safe and smooth event, multiple key roads will be closed from the night of Saturday, July 5, through to Sunday afternoon, July 6.
Full List of Affected Roads and Timings
1. Nairobi Expressway (James Gichuru to JKIA):
Closed in both directions from 10:00 PM Saturday to 3:00 PM Sunday.
2. Uhuru Highway:
Closed in two sections — between Southern Bypass and Lang’ata Roundabout, and between Bunyala Roundabout and Kenyatta Avenue — from 12:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday.
3. Kenyatta Avenue:
Shut down from 12:00 AM to 4:00 PM, especially between Pan Africa Hotel and Uhuru Highway.
4. Waiyaki Way (inner lanes):
Closed from 12:00 AM to 10:00 AM between Musa Gitau Road and the entrance to the Expressway.
5. Mombasa Road and Southern Bypass-Likoni Road Crossing:
Will be inaccessible from 12:00 AM to 11:00 AM, including all roundabouts, exits, and entries into the city.

City authorities have urged Nairobians to use alternative routes or delay travel plans if possible. Organizers are working with police and traffic marshals to manage diversions and ensure minimal disruption to non-participants.
