A legal order has halted public forums on the impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo, forcing the County Assembly Clerk, Salad Boru Guracha, to cancel all scheduled participation sessions. The move follows a High Court ruling temporarily stopping the impeachment process.

Highlights:

  • Isiolo County Assembly cancels June 18 public forums on Guyo’s impeachment
  • High Court issues conservatory orders suspending the process
  • Petitioners cite gross misconduct, misuse of funds, and constitutional violations
  • All 18 MCAs back the impeachment motion against Governor Guyo
  • Court orders both parties to submit filings before full hearing proceeds

The County Assembly had invited residents to participate in public forums across Isiolo’s wards to discuss Governor Guyo’s potential ouster. However, Justice Heston Nyaga issued conservatory orders halting any related processes, prompting Clerk Guracha to cancel the exercise.

The court found sufficient grounds to stop the forums, pending a full hearing. It ordered the petitioners to serve the Assembly and Speaker by June 17, and the respondents to reply promptly.

The motion to impeach Governor Guyo, introduced by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana, was unanimously backed by all 18 MCAs. The accusations include:

  • Breach of Chapter Six of the Constitution
  • Failure to complete critical county projects
  • Mismanagement of county funds
  • Overstaffing through questionable short-term contracts
  • Creating a toxic work environment through frequent reshuffles

The legal process now takes center stage. The court is expected to set a date for a substantive hearing to determine whether the impeachment can proceed, effectively putting the Assembly’s actions on hold.

As the court steps in and political tensions simmer, Isiolo waits to see whether this impeachment drama will lead to justice or just another stalemate.
