The suspect was apprehended on October 7, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation by officers from Kisumu Central Police Station, who had been tracking individuals linked to stolen vehicle networks operating across western Kenya.

Eleven Vehicles Under Investigation

Preliminary investigations reveal that Otieno played a central role in coordinating the movement and sale of stolen cars, some of which had previously been impounded at Migosi Police Station.
A total of 11 vehicles, all found without valid ownership documents, were recovered and are currently undergoing verification as part of ongoing investigations.

Syndicate Dismantled

According to police sources, the syndicate targeted vehicles parked in residential areas and public spaces, later altering registration details before selling them. Authorities believe the network extended to neighboring counties including Vihiga, Busia, and Nakuru.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that several accomplices are being pursued, and more arrests are expected.

Police Praise Swift Operation

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) praised the officers involved for their quick response and professionalism.
“NPS commends the swift action taken by our officers and reaffirms its commitment to dismantling criminal networks involved in vehicle theft and other organized crimes,” the statement read.

The suspect remains in custody and will be arraigned before the Kisumu Law Courts as investigations continue.
