Popular preacher and founder of the Empowerment Christian Church (ECC), Reverend Lucy Natasha, has shared her inspiring journey from the slums of Mathare to becoming a prominent religious figure.
Born and raised in the tough environment of Mathare, Natasha recalled the challenges her parents faced in raising her and her siblings in a one-room house. She candidly discussed the negative influences and peer pressure she encountered growing up in the ghetto. She admitted going to ‘dunda’ with her friends and even consuming ‘Kingfisher’.
”Jam session, tulienda dunda kiasi. Lakini sasa tukiwa hizo enzi, of course kitu tulikua tunajaribu ukienda jam session, hautakunywa tu soda. Ka Kingfisher apo,” she laughed it off.
”Mkishaingia tu mkilipa entrance, unalipa ile drink moja. Kama ni Kingfisher unashinda nako ukiskiza ngoma. I went very few times.
Despite these challenges, Natasha’s spiritual journey was significantly influenced by her mother and grandmother, who are both preachers. She attributed her strong faith and relationship with God to her family’s lineage of pastors.
