Main Story:
Detectives have arrested a suspected fraudster accused of posing as a taxi driver before making away with over Sh500,000 from a passenger in Nairobi.

According to police reports, the incident happened on the night of August 8, 2025. The victim, who had been out with a friend in Lavington, was about to request an Uber when the suspect, identified as Fred Atandi Morara, approached them with what he claimed were cheaper charges.
After dropping the complainant and his companion at an Airbnb, Morara allegedly disappeared with the man’s phone. Authorities say he quickly transferred over Sh500,000 from the victim’s bank accounts into different accounts that were later deactivated.
Following investigations, detectives tracked down Morara, arresting him while operating a Mazda Demio believed to be fitted with fake registration plates KDQ 810B and an alternative set, KDN 993Q.

A search led to the recovery of multiple mobile phones, several sim cards, and a sisal rope. He has since been handed over to DCI Dagoretti for further interrogation and processing.
