Main Story:

Kenya is witnessing a broader spread of the Mpox virus, with two more counties—Kisii and Kirinyaga—reporting their first cases. Health authorities now confirm a total of 137 infections spread across 17 counties.

According to Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, Busia continues to bear the brunt of the outbreak, recording 48 confirmed cases. Mombasa follows with 37 infections, while Nakuru and Makueni report 16 and 10 cases respectively.

Nairobi, the capital, has documented five infections. Meanwhile, Kajiado and Bungoma have each reported three.

The virus has also been identified in Taita Taveta, Kericho, and Kilifi counties, each logging two infections. Other counties reporting one or two cases include Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Migori, Isiolo, Machakos, Kisii, and Kirinyaga.

The Ministry is calling for increased vigilance, especially in border towns and urban areas. Public health campaigns are being ramped up to raise awareness and promote early.

As Mpox cases rise, the question remains — are we doing enough to stop the virus from slipping through the cracks?
