Kenyan artist Masauti speaks on what transpired for him to shave his signature dreadlocks that he had kept on for quite a while now for over 8 years.
Speaking during an interview with Mungai Eve at the Love and Vibes Festival in Eldoret, where its first edition was taking place, hosted by Nadia Mukami and Arrowbwoy, he said that he opted to drop them because his mother kept on persistently asking him to shave them down because she felt they looked bad on his head.
“Nimechoka kueka dready..alafu pia mama yangu saa zingine ananiambia haya marasta, marasta bana naona hayakukai vizuri.” Masauti added.
Masauti figured it would just be fine if he shaved them so that he could put a smile on his mother’s face because they were giving him titles that he doesn’t have.
“Mama yangu hakupendelea zile luku za dready ndefu so nikaona ninyoe pia nimfurahishe nikanyoa na akaniambia nakaa smart.” Masauti said.
He dismissed claims that he shaved his signature dreadlocks because he has family, because he did it because of his mother, and also because he felt it was necessary to do so.
Speaking of why he keeps his love life and family private, it’s because there’s too much toxicity online, and he doesn’t want to get them into the limelight.
“Sipendi sana waje kwa hii maisha ya celebrity lakini watu wanawajua nishai wapost before watu wachache wanawajua.”
The ‘Ipepete’ hit maker also opened up on why he spends more time in Nairobi than he does in his birthplace back in Mombasa, saying that the support and gigs he gets from Nairobi cannot be compared to the ones he gets from Mombasa, and he also stays in Nairobi because it is a city with opportunities and more platforms you’d get to meet with other artists and work with easily.
